Coffeejack

Size: 9" x 12"

Year: 1994

Framed: unframed with mat

"Coffeejack" by Markham is a striking and haunting piece of art that captures the imagination with its eerie depiction of a twisted and malevolent coffee can jack-in-the-box. The anthropomorphized coffee can, with its ghoulish grin and wicked intent gleaming in its eyes, sets a chilling tone for the entire composition.

The jack-in-the-box emerging from the coffee can is depicted as dead and elongated, resembling a long snakelike figure. Its body, segmented like a tube, is adorned with figures in torment and other grotesque imagery, adding layers of horror to the scene.

Markham's use of bold pen and ink creates a stark contrast, enhancing the macabre atmosphere of the artwork. Despite some ink fading in one section of the jack-in-the-box body, the piece maintains its power to captivate and disturb.

Having been displayed at the New York Scholastic Art Awards of 1994 and receiving an honorable mention, "Coffeejack" showcases the talent and creativity of its creator. Accompanied by an artist's certificate of authenticity, this piece is not only a visual feast but also a collector's item with a prestigious history.
