Defected From Birth

Medium: Graphite on mounted paper
Size: 18" x 24"
Year: 1995

A visceral descent into the subconscious, Defected From Birth renders a surreal, biomorphic world through dense graphite linework and fevered imagination. Created in 1995, this large-scale drawing by Markham explores themes of mutation, genesis, and psychological distortion in a nightmarish anatomical dreamscape.

Figures emerge from and merge into one another—limbs, faces, and forms morph and multiply—creating a continuous visual narrative of transformation and decay. An embryonic child floats within a spherical womb; nearby, distorted human hybrids twist into fleshy architectures, surrounded by organic, sinewy textures that evoke both the internal and extraterrestrial.

Executed in graphite on mounted paper, the piece measures 18" x 24" and is presented in new condition. It comes professionally framed with a mat, wired and ready to hang. A certificate of authenticity is included, hand-signed by the artist, ensuring its provenance and collectible value.

Part of Markham’s formative mid-90s body of work, Defected From Birth stands as a raw, unfiltered expression of body horror, subconscious narrative, and surreal anatomical vision—a compelling addition to collections of outsider, visionary, or dark figurative art.
