Object of Man

Medium: Prismacolor pencil on bristol vellum
Size: 17" x 14"
Year: 2004

Object of Man is an original 2004 Prismacolor drawing by Markham, exploring the intersection of industrial form and biological suggestion through a surreal, highly graphic lens. The serpentine structure at the center of the composition appears part creature, part construct—its undulating, metallic body coiled over a gridded plane that evokes both architecture and confinement.

Accentuated by a dynamic burst of radial lines, the figure’s stylized windows and rib-like arches suggest a breathing machine, or a living building caught mid-mutation. The bold addition of red lips at its head injects an unsettling touch of human sensuality, underscoring the piece's themes of mechanization, objectification, and transformation.

Executed with precision in Prismacolor pencil on bristol vellum, Object of Man is preserved in like new condition. It is mounted on foam core and comes framed and wired for immediate display. An original certificate of authenticity signed by the artist is included.

A compelling addition to collections focused on surrealism, visionary architecture, or psychological symbolism, this one-of-a-kind work offers a uniquely charged aesthetic experience.
